you wouldnt have to worry about matal shavings getting in the plenum or even pulling the plenum . And one more thought here : If you remove the egr pipes on both sides where the enter the plenum you'll notice that where the pipe goes through the plate that bolts to the plenum , that pipe is welded to the plate so if you cut the pipe and grind the weld off then pull the pipe out , youll have the equivilant of a block off plate that already has a hole in it that can be tapped for a new vacuum connector , without buying a block off kit . Then like Woody said , this plate can be installed / removed with the plenum still on the engine .
